So for my first entry I'm going to talk about the local paper 'The Gold Coast Bulletin' and its recent article about the parking problem at Griffith University. Now I'm a student there and I know the parking situation is absolutely ridiculous but it has been for the past 3 years that I have been there and only now that the government have started construction of the new hospital has the newspaper jumped onto the story. It interviewed a whole 2 people for the article and both said that it took them ages to walk to uni from where they parked. One even said it took them 25 minutes to walk from the back of Parklands to the campus. 25 minutes, that is nearly how long it takes me to walk from my house to the campus and I walking 2km-3km, whilst the walk from the back of parklands is 0.5km-1km the most. I do realise people walk at different paces but what kind of young person walks that slow, I doubt even someone seriously unfit walks that slow. Of course the journalist showed just how nice they were and offered one of them a lift from where the interviewee had parked. I'm sorry pretty sure that person has 2 working legs which are capable of walking, is our generation too good to walk or get sweaty (which will be another post about my generation).
It also talked about how because of the lack of parking people were late for class because it took them so long to find a park. Now we're in the third week of semester, if one had half a brain one would have realised after the first couple of times that hey maybe I need to leave the house even earlier than usual so I have enough time to find a park and walk from where my car is parked to campus so I get to my lecture/tutorial on time but apparently these people lack said common sense even though the 2 interviewed were second year students and construction of the hospital started late last year.
Are we just a bunch of lazy whingers who can't be bothered to wake up a little earlier to get to class on time or walk a little further to get to class because of a parking problem. I admit there is a severe parking problem at Griffith University but it has been a lingering problem and one doe to poor planning but the whole Gold Coast is like that; I doubt the original town planners really expected the population of the Gold Coast to get where it is today in such a short period of time. Yeah the university/government should build more carparks for students and staff, but complaining about how 'far' they have to walk and how they are always late for class because they can't seem to grasp the concept that one may have to leave earlier and writing some article about it, is rather pathetic.

PS Here's a image of how far it is from the back of Parklands to the campus.
